UPDATED: 1 needed to be rescued behind road closed signs

Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) and Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies responded around 2pm afternoon to a water rescue call on Ferndale Road, north of Marine Drive.

It became apparent that the victim, standing in the bed of their pickup surrounded by feet of flood water, would not be able to be reached with their equipment.

Whatcom County Search and Rescue was contacted to respond with a watercraft. As of the writing of this story (3:30pm), they were awaiting its arrival.

Update 4:30pm
The WCSO’s armored personnel truck light-armored vehicle (LAV) arrived at the same time the Search and Rescue watercraft did. It was decided to send the truck out and within 10 minutes the individual who had spent nearly 3 hours in the cold wind was back on land receiving medical attention.
