FERNDALE, Wash. — Puget Sound Energy electric crews will be working along Thornton Street into late August in anticipation of the Thornton Street overpass project.

Company officials recently sent a letter to area residents and property owners warning of traffic impacts and the possibilities of interruptions to electrical service.

Work began yesterday, July 15th, and is expected to continue between 7am and 5pm until late August. Signs and traffic control flaggers will guide vehicles and pedestrians through the work zone on Malloy Avenue near Thornton Street and between Snowden Drive and the east end of Thornton Street near I-5.

Crews from PSE, Potelco and Power X will be replacing select utility poles, upgrading related electric equipment and undergrounding electric wire. According to the PSE letter,

Due to the complexity of the work and for the safety of our crew, we may need to take a planned power outage towards the end of the project which might impact your residence or business.

We will notify those impacted customers directly prior to beginning any work requiring a planned power outage in person, by mail, email or door hanger and we will work closely with businesses to schedule any interruption of service outside of business hours.

Other utility companies will begin work to relocate their facilities after PSE’s work has been completed according to City of Ferndale Capital Projects Manager Katy Radder.
