2 crashes at Bay and Kickerville Roads send 4 to the hospital

The 3 vehicles involved in 2 related crashes today at Kickerville Road and Bay Road were spread across a wide area.

Law enforcement and aid units were dispatched to a multivehicle crash this morning about 11:30am. When they arrived at the scene they came upon on a car off the road facing west on Bay Road east of the intersection and two cars facing north on Kickerville Road south of the intersection.

According to Washington State Patrol (WSP), when the collisions occurred, one car was southbound on Kickerville Road, a second was eastbound on Bay Road and a third was stopped at a stop sign northbound on Bay Road. The first collision occurred when the southbound car failed to stop at the stop sign and went into the path of the eastbound car and they collided in the intersection. That crash caused the second collision which occurred when the southbound car crashed into the driver’s side of the stopped northbound car.

Whatcom County Fire District 7 firefighters used the ‘Jaws of Life’ on one vehicle to enable extricating at least one passenger.

Traffic on Kickerville Road was temporarily blocked while aid crews tended to the injured, law enforcement conducted their investigation and the vehicles awaited being removed from the scene.

2 people from one vehicle were transported by aid car to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center. 2 others were transported by private vehicle according to the WSP.

There was no information from WSP whether alcohol or drugs were involved or if any charges were pending.
