A 6th grader is safe after her parents reported her as missing after school yesterday, Monday.
According to Ferndale School District officials, the child’s mother reported her missing after she had not arrived home at the expected time. After the school was notified, a search was begun and, according to district officials, “the student was discovered unharmed and reunited with her family immediately.” According to the district, she was found asleep on the school bus 90 minutes after it had returned to the transportation facility after completing its route.
Yesterday was an early dismissal day for the students.
The district issued a statement today saying, “Ferndale School District sincerely apologizes to our sixth grade student and her family for the oversight that happened yesterday (November 21) afternoon on one of our school buses.” The statement also said, “At this time, we are investigating the circumstances to determine where the breakdown occurred.”
The bus driver has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the district.
