7th Graders install “positive message” signs on Thornton Street and Vista Drive

Ferndale School District says to look for “positive messages for our community” signs along Thornton Street and Vista Drive beginning tomorrow, Friday, June 16th.

A Horizon Middle School seventh grade advisory class, under the guidance of teacher Terry Diffley, worked this spring to design and implement the aluminum signs containing 12 positive messages. This required working with Safety Signs, Inc. to design the signs and City of Ferndale and Puget Sound Energy officials to get permission to install the signs on telephone poles.

The project was funded by a grant from Project Neighborly through the Whatcom Community Foundation. Diffley explained, “The grant mostly covered the expense of having professional-grade aluminum signs made, with a similar motif, and positive messages.”

According to a district announcement, the idea of Horizon Positive Messages is to help remind people to stay positive and to share that positivity with others in our community.
