Friday night and Saturday, the Ferndale area suffered several localized power outages in the middle of a wind storm during extreme cold temperatures. Today, Sunday, February 10th, the sun has momentarily (forecasters say) made an appearance under calm skies.

It was almost 2 years to the day when a wind storm downed an eagles’ nest near W Axton Road and broke the hearts of many of their fans. Weeks later, the 2 bald eagles were seen rebuilding the nest in the same tree. After yesterday’s significant wind storm, many were probably wondering how the eagles fared.

Their fans can rest easy knowing the nest remains and an adult along with 2 juvenile eagles could be seen in a nearby tree enjoying the calmer weather while likely waiting for the second adult to return with lunch.

  1. Your posts and writing are always good to read, but I especially appreciate all the pictures you have posted as they give such a good idea of just how bad the winds were. Certainly here in N.W. Ferndale the house was rocking to the high winds but our new roof weathered the storm.
