The Ferndale Police Department (FPD) reported today they have one person in custody from the reported robbery of the AM/PM ARCO gas station at Grandview and Portal Way. As a result of information from the suspect, police are now looking for the clerk.
According to Ferndale Police Lieutenant Matt Huffman, Lynden Police responded to a call regarding a suspicious person at a motel yesterday. They recognized the person from the pictures taken by the security video system at the gas station and contacted the FPD.
The person admitted to having been involved after Ferndale detectives showed them the pictures taken. As a result, Shanjeet Brar, age 49, from California was arrested and charged with theft in the first degree.
Based on information from Brar, Huffman said the robbery appeared to have been staged and the store clerk, Baldev Gill, age 28, is now being sought and believed to have left the area, possibly headed toward California.
Some of the cash taken has been recovered, Huffman said. According to charges filed against Brar, more than $5000 had been taken.
