The National Weather Service issued a special statement today forewarning “unusually hot weather is expected across western Washington.”
NWS forecasters say to expect a strong upper level ridge Friday that will bring sunny skies and a warming trend that will last at least through Tuesday. “High temperatures will rise to well above normal levels with the very dry conditions continuing through the holiday weekend.”
Here are the high temperatures (in Fahrenheit) forecast for the Labor Day holiday weekend by the different weather services as of today (Wednesday).
Weather Service | Friday | Saturday | Sunday | Monday |
NWS | 75° | 78° | 78° | 80° |
Environment Canada (Abbotsford) | 80° | 86° | 90° | 90° |
Weather underground BestForecast | 77° | 82° | 81° | 84° |
It may seem laughable to those from warmer climes when several days closing in on 90° is called a ‘heatwave’ but the Ferndale area, with it’s close proximity to Puget Sound, is unaccustomed to enduring such events. As a result, people, pets and livestock are acclimated to lower temperatures and buildings are likely to lack air cooling systems.
