UPDATED – Area parks closed due to flooding

Yesterday, Whatcom County Parks Department announced Hovander Homestead Park and the adjacent Tennant Lake area were closed due to flooding concerns.

This morning, Friday, City of Ferndale Public Works crews closed the parking are at VanderYacht Park due to flooding.

The access to the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife boat launch has also been closed.

The Nooksack River level at Ferndale had reached the 19-foot mark at 6:30am this morning according to the National Weather Service.

The river level is expected to continue rising until around noon when it is expected to crest at just past the 19.5-foot mark, inside the minor flood stage range of 18 to 20.5 feet.

The river level is expected to recede to the 15-foot mark around noon tomorrow, Saturday.
