Ferndale Police, acting on a tip, converged on a room at the Ferndale Super 8 Motel early this morning.
According to a City of Ferndale spokesperson, police were acting on a tip the shooter from Saturday’s shooting at the nearby Orca Inn Suites was in a room at the Super 8 Motel.
After police announced their presence about 3am, they were able to confirm the room was occupied but the occupant did not respond to their requests to come out. Eventually, though, the subject inside did come out and was taken into custody.
It was determined the subject in the room was not the suspect from the shooting but was connected to the shooting incident. The subject was arrested and booked.
The identity of the subject and what they are charged with will be included in this story when available.
Update 11/23/16: The room’s occupant, Jorge D Gilbert, age 32, was later determined not to have been involved in the shooting incident. He was booked for obstructing a police officer, 1st degree illegal possession of a handgun and possession of a narcotic drug with intent to manufacture or deliver.
The room was searched and evidence of drug use and sales was collected.
Late yesterday, two other subjects connected with the shooting were arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail according to the City spokesperson. They are Riley D Cooper, age 24, and Stevi P Day, age 25. Both were still in custody at the time of this article.
According to jail records, both were charged with possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance. Cooper was also charged with 1st degree assault with a firearm and Day was also charged with 1st degree rendering criminal assistance.
Ferndale Police are continuing their investigation into Saturday’s Orca Inn Suites shooting and the evidence located today at the Super 8 Motel.
