Monday, October 9th, is observed as Columbus Day (or, in some areas, Indigenous Peoples’ Day). So what will be opened and closed?
While Columbus Day is a federal holiday, City of Ferndale staff will be reporting for duty as will staff and students at Ferndale School District schools. Washington State offices will also be open along with the Ferndale Public Library. The Ferndale Senior Activity Center will be open and the Ferndale Food Bank will be open to receive donations from 8am until noon.
Most retail businesses and professional service businesses will be open according to their normal schedules. And Sanitary Service Company (SSC) will be making their normal Monday rounds.
So what will be closed? US Government offices and the US Postal Service post offices will be closed. As a result, there will be no mail delivery Monday.
Locals can also expect an unusually heavy volume of traffic to and from the US/Canadian border crossings since Monday is the observed Thanksgiving Day in Canada.
