Blaine woman succumbs to injuries after car vs pedestrian collision on Slater Road

FERNDALE, Wash. — A Blaine woman has died after being struck by a pickup truck while walking along Slater Road on Sunday, November 29th according to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol (WSP) released last night.

WSP identified the woman as Katrina J Sampson, age 27.

WSP investigators determined Sampson was walking eastbound on Slater Road between Beach Way and Lake Terrell Road when she was struck around 5pm by an eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by a 44-year-old Ferndale man.

Whatcom County Fire District 17 (WCFD17) crews were dispatched to the scene where they located and removed the victim from a watery ditch alongside the road according to WCFD17 Fire Chief Jim Petrie.

Sampson was transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center under advance life support protocols (ALS) by a Whatcom County medic unit. Next of kin notification was provided by Harbor View staff according to the WSP press memo. It is unknown, according to WSP, whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

According to witness reports from the scene, Sampson was wearing dark clothes when she was hit about 1 hour after sunset. The driver of the pickup remained at the scene and was cooperative with law enforcement according to WSP Trooper Heather Axtman.

The driver and his passenger were uninjured but the vehicle sustained some damage according to WSP. No charges were made against the driver.
