Candidate’s submitted biography (unedited):

I was born in Bellingham and I have lived in Whatcom County all my life. I attended and graduated from Lynden Christian schools. I grew up doing odd jobs in agriculture and helping friends who lived on dairy farms gave me a small glimpse of the hard work demanded of farmers.

I attended one year at the University of Wyoming. In June of 1989 I was hired for the summer by Hillview Builders. Rather than going back to college I continued working as a trim carpenter until May 1995 when I took over our family business, Kelly’s Piano Service. I have owned and operated the business for 24 years.

Like many small business owners the great recession hit my business hard. I had to  make hard decisions and drastic measures to stay in business and not go bankrupt. I had to prioritize expenses, revamp and modernize to make my business nimble in the changing economy. I have since been able to thrive and be more successful today than before the recession.

Over the years as I have traveled and serviced my customers all over Whatcom County. I have gotten to know and care for the people who live here and I now feel it is the time for me to represent them and be their voice in county government.

December of last year my wife Heather and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We have four children, two sons who are attending WWU and two daughters who attend Meridian public schools. It has always been a priority that our family be active in church ministry and the community. It has been our goal to raise our children to love God and to love their neighbor.
