Whatcom County cities and their designated urban growth areas, including Ferndale, have permanent burn bans on all but recreational fires.
On January 1st of this year, Whatcom County Fire District 17, which serves Sandy Point Shores, Sandy Point Heights, Neptune Heights, Neptune Beach and western portions of the Lummi Indian Reservation, implemented a permanent burn ban on residential yard debris, beach debris and land clearing fires.
Will Anderson of the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office said they are continuing to monitor the fire danger. Anderson added that, although their offices are closed to minimize the spread of the COVID-19 disease, burn permit rules and applications are available online and county residents can contact the Whatcom County Burn Information Line at 360-778-5903 for additional information and verbal burn permits.
