FERNDALE, Wash. — Anya Milton announced today she is withdrawing her candidacy for Ferndale City Council Position 3 so she can focus on her new responsibilities as the Executive Director of the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Board President Antonio Machado said they were very excited to announce Milton had accepted the position which has been vacant since Ann Serwold resigned at the end of July. “We expect her to not only continue the excellent support she has brought the past year as program director, but to bring the full complement of her talent, skills, and relationships forward and lead the Ferndale Chamber into the next decade,” Machado is quoted as saying in a press release announcing Milton’s appointment to executive director.

Milton was hired to be the Chamber’s program coordinator in October 2018. Prior to that she served as the Chamber Board president while employed with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County.

Milton’s opponent in the council race is Erin Gunter who, given Milton’s withdrawal from the race, will now be running unopposed after Mike Reilly was taken out of the running last month in the Primary Election. Milton threw her support to Gunter in her announcement today saying, “I fully understand and acknowledge her passion for serving the citizens and know she will be a positive force on the Council, absolutely committed as a public servant.”
