Car fire on I-5 makes for a rough start to the day

FERNDALE, Wash. — A car fire on northbound I-5 near W Smith Road blocked the right lane for about 30 minutes early this morning, September 10th.

Washington State Patrol and Whatcom County Fire District 7 personnel were dispatched to the scene just before 6am.

Washington State Department of Transportation provided the following videos of the scene via Twitter.

WSP Trooper Heather Axtman said the driver and sole occupant of the 2006 Mazda 3 must have known something was amiss when they pulled to the right shoulder before the car became fully involved. The cause of the fire was unknown according to Axtman. No injuries were reported.
