UPDATED: Car vs bicycle collision closes Slater Road

FERNDALE, Wash. — Slater Road closed for several hours between LaBounty Road and Imhof Road due to a collision between a passenger car and a bicyclist at the intersection of Ferndale and Slater Roads about 2:25pm today, June 18th.

According to a witness at the scene, a passenger car collided with a bicyclist in the eastbound lane of Slater Road.

Washington State Patrol report the bicyclist, Christine Seyl, age 71, of Bellingham died at the scene.

WSP investigators reported Seyl entered the road in front of an eastbound 2009 Honda Accord driven by a Ferndale woman and was struck. The speed limit on Slater Road is 50mph in that section of the road. The Honda sustained damage and was towed from the scene.

The driver was wearing her seatbelt and neither alcohol nor drugs were considered involved in the incident. The bicyclist was wearing a USDOT-compliant helmet according to WSP. Next of kin were notified.
