A Bellingham man was booked into the Whatcom County Jail Friday after crashing a car into a large tree about 150-feet from the road resulting in him and his passenger being transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 personnel were dispatched shortly after 7am Friday, April 12th, to the 5300 block of Belfern Drive. They arrived to find a single vehicle with heavy front-end damage according to radio transmissions.
Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies and a Washington State Patrol (WSP) trooper also responded.
WSP Trooper Heather Axtman said in an email the car was northbound on Belfern Drive when it failed to negotiate the left turn in the road.
The car, a 2-door Scion tC, left the road and struck a tree on property owned, according to Whatcom County Assessor’s Office records, by the Belfern Water Association.
There were initial concerns the female passenger had suffered a serious hip injury but after being assessed by PeaceHealth staff both the driver’s and passenger’s injuries were determined to be minor according to Axtman.
Axtman identified the male driver as Joshua N. Fallie. According to Whatcom County Jail records, Fallie, age 26, of Bellingham, was booked into the jail Friday under suspicion of reckless driving, driving under the influence and reckless endangerment. Fallie was released shortly after midnight Saturday morning after posting $2,000 bail.
According to Whatcom County Superior Court records, Fallie was currently awaiting trial for a 2nd degree assault charge at the time of the crash. He was out on $15,000 bail and scheduled to reappear in court on July 17th for a hearing related to that charge.
