About 4pm this afternoon Ferndale Police responded to a report of a multi-car collision on Main Street by the I-5 northbound on- and off-ramps. When they arrived they found two vehicles with severe damage that required towing.
In the meantime, traffic began backing up on the I-5 northbound off-ramp to the point the line of exiting vehicles were queuing up in the parking strip alongside I-5 since they had run out of space on the off-ramp. Traffic also began backing up on Main Street, both eastbound and westbound, with eastbound traffic ultimately being snarled back into the downtown district.
Aid units were called for one person reporting to have injuries from the crash but no one required transportation to the hospital.
A single tow-truck arrived at the scene and took one vehicle to the Whatcom Educational Credit Union parking lot and then returned to retrieve the other blocking vehicle in order to free up traffic as quickly as possible.
No information regarding the cause of the crash was available at the time of this story.
