Celebrating New Year’s with fireworks? Know the law

If you are planning to celebrate New Year’s with fireworks this year, it is worth being aware of current local laws about discharging fireworks on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Setting off consumer fireworks within Ferndale and in Whatcom County is legal from 6pm on December 31st until 1am on January 1st. This includes common consumer fireworks (aka Class C) but not firecrackers, skyrockets and missile-type rockets. These laws do not apply to professionally produced and permitted pyrotechnical performances.
