City-owned house to be made available to low-income families

Update 8:30pm
The Ferndale City Council voted unanimously to approve the lease arrangements.

Original Story
The City of Ferndale (COF) recently purchased a house where a proposed roundabout will go at the intersection of Vista Drive and Washington Street. Since roundabout construction remains a future project, COF staff will be recommending to City Council during tonight’s meeting to approve leasing the house to Interfaith Coalition of Bellingham.

Interfaith Coalition would lease the property at 2080 Washington Street for $1 per month according to the lease agreement provided in the City Council meeting documents.

If the lease is approved, Interfaith Coalition is expected to sublet the house at below market rates to renters referred from Whatcom Homeless Service Center, Homeless Liaison for the Ferndale Public Schools and other organizations.
