FERNDALE, Wash. — A proposed project to reconstruct and widen Thornton Street between Vista Drive to Malloy Avenue is the subject of a recent request for quotes (RFQ) by the city to engineering design firms.
According to the RFQ,
This project will reconstruct the and widen Thornton Street to current standards between Vista Drive to Malloy Avenue. Improvements include upgrading the stormwater, water and sanitary sewer utility systems, installation of ADA compliant sidewalks and ramps on both sides of the road, and upgrades to the street lighting where needed.
This section of Thornton Street connects to the Thornton Street overpass project area at Malloy Avenue. It is also a route taken by students walking and biking to and from Skyline Elementary School located at Vista Drive and Thornton Street.
City staff say the design work will be funded from city funds and they expect to apply a federal grant available in 2023 to pay for construction. It is hoped this project can be completed prior to the opening of the overpass which is currently estimated to occur sometime in 2023.
