Crash on Mountain View Road at Elder Road results in road closure

As of 10:10am, today, February 24th, a semi truck involved in a crash Mountain View Road at Elder Road was blocking the road and law enforcement at the scene were requesting traffic be diverted away from the area.

A Toyota Prius and a Kenworth semi truck pulling an empty flatbed trailer collided at the intersection resulting in the Toyota ending up facing east in the ditch on the northeast corner of the intersection and the truck also facing east on the property on the northeast corner.

The Toyota sustained heavy damage on the driver side and Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the driver was transported to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The truck also struck and broke a utility pole. According to first responders at the scene, no power lines were involved. The driver of the semi truck was uninjured.

It was expected that traffic would be detoured around the crash scene for an extended period since the utility crews needed to support the broken pole before the truck could be towed off of it.
