UPDATED: Crash on Mountain View Road sends 2 to the hospital

Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) fire and aid crews were dispatched to a report of a 2-car crash at Elder and Mountain View Roads this morning around 7:30am.

By 8am, Mountain View was being closed between N Starr Road and Elder Road.

According to WCFD7 Division Chief Justin Iverson, 2 people, one under basic life support (BLS) protocol and the other under advanced (ALS), were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

As of the writing of this story, no information regarding cause and if any charges or citations were available as the investigation was just getting underway.

A resident said over the 3 years they have lived at that intersection, there have been about a half-dozen crashes.

UPDATE 9:25am: Mountain View Road has been reopened to all traffic.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) report the driver of the white 2008 Honda Civic 4-door is a 16-year-old female (minor’s name withheld) and Ferndale School District says she is a Ferndale High School student. The black 2012 Dodge RAM pickup was driven by Vincent J Anderson, age 44. As originally reported, both drivers were transported by aid car to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center.

WSP’s investigation revealed the Honda was traveling southbound on Elder Road and the Dodge was traveling westbound on Mountain View Road. The Honda stopped at the stop sign at Mountain View and then proceeded to attempt a left turn to head eastbound on Mountain View in front of the Dodge. The Dodge struck the driver’s side of the Honda.

The crash remains under investigation by WSP.

UPDATE 3:45pm
A family member has said the injured female was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and is in stable condition. They asked that her identity not be revealed at this time.
