Today, the Ferndale School District said Daniel Ramirez Porter, age 6, who recently died after suffering symptoms initially associated with acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), was a kindergartener at Eagleridge Elementary School.
It was determined after he died that Ramirez did not have AFM.
In an announcement today, the district said a candlelight vigil for Ramirez is planned for this Saturday at Eagleridge.
Last week, we received some very sad news. One of our kindergarten students, Daniel Ramirez, passed away. Daniel was a very sweet, kind boy. He always had a twinkle in his eye. Daniel will be greatly missed both within our school community and our greater Ferndale community.
Our thoughts and condolences are with Daniel’s family. Also, we offer condolences to all the Eagleridge Elementary School students and staff members, especially Daniel’s classmates, teachers and Principal Burnett.
The vigil is open to everyone in the community and will be held at Eagleridge Elementary School, 2651 Thornton Road, beginning at 7pm this Saturday, November 12th.
Anyone wanting to drop off sympathy cards can do so at the Eagleridge Elementary School Office or they can be mailed to Eagleridge Elementary School at PO Box 1127, Ferndale, WA 98248. They will be delivered to Ramirez’s family.
