At the time, Whatcom County Fire District 17 Fire Chief Jim Petrie said the boat needed be retrofitted with rescue and firefighting equipment along with fire service radio equipment. Today, Petrie said the retrofitting has been done and the boat is now in service.
Petrie said in an email today to other first responder agencies,
The boat was retrofitted to include firefighting capabilities, water rescue equipment, emergency medical supplies, fuel spill booms/pads, flood lighting and various communications options.
Our plan is to have the boat in service from April 1st through September 30th each year and moored at the Sandy Point marina which is located directly behind the fire station.
This new resource is in service and available to your agencies should you ever need it through mutual aid requests.
