Initial reports say a panel truck snagged a fiber-optic line shortly before 1pm while turning from Church Road onto Grouse Circle. As a result, the line broke just south of the intersection of Church Road and Thornton Street and dropped to the ground blocking driveways and roads from the north entrance of Grouse Circle to Stoneyfield Drive.
Comcast/Xfinity company crews were on the scene making repairs by 1pm. No estimate about how long repairs would take was available except to say, “It could be a while.”
Being a fiber-optic line, it posed no immediate danger like a power line would and there was no power outage reported in the area.
There had been no reports of lost internet or telephone service as a result of the break as of the time this story was posted at 1:55pm.
Ferndale Police were investigating and noted the truck’s height was not an issue leaving open the possibility of a low-hanging line being to blame.
