FERNDALE, Wash. — A City of Ferndale water main extension project is expected to require closing a section of Hovander Road next week from Monday to Friday according to an announcement from the city.
The section of Hovander Road, south of Scout Place and north of the railroad crossing, is scheduled to be closed beginning 7am on Monday, September 21st, until 6pm on Friday, September 25th. The all-day and all-night closure is required as crews will need to dig across the road in order to finish installing a water main extension between the south end of Nordic Way and Scout Place.
A pipe to put the main through was installed under the railroad tracks in anticipation of this work being done.
Traffic will be detoured around the closure via Main Street, LaBounty Drive and W Smith Road.
The water main extension will create a “looped” system between Nordic Way and Scout Place. Such a system will augment fire flow, according to City Administrator Jori Burnett, and “will serve to better-regulate the line velocity of the system through this area. The improvements, once designed and constructed, will help to facilitate additional growth in the area.”
