1pm: Temperatures in the area have been increasing slowly since 8am. While still in the upper 20s, at least the temperatures are no longer falling as they had been since 3pm yesterday. There are no weather warnings or advisories in effect.
8:15am: Slater Road will be closed between Ferndale Road and LaBounty Drive due to a semi truck blocking all lanes. I-5 traffic southbound from Ferndale is backed up and averaging 30mph or less.
7:15am: Whatcom County deputies were heard on their radios requesting sand trucks on hilly areas and intersections (where people are unable to stop). In addition, the I-5 and Slater Road overpass was described as “really bad.”
5:45am: As more people head onto the roads this morning so are there reports of single-vehicle crashes. Several cars have been reported to have slid off the road into ditches and the median of I-5. Temperatures in the area have continued to drop since the snow began to fall after midnight. A weather station near Ferndale High School is reporting the current temperature is 27°. Original Story (2am)
By 2am, most areas had at least 2 inches of snow accumulation.
While roads were slick, drivers appeared to be reducing their speeds and avoiding hills as a result of the snow.
By 1am, Ferndale Public Works crews began clearing roads with snowplows.
Based on WSDOT traffic cameras, locations south of Bellingham remained clear of any snow while I-5 through Bellingham to the border appeared to have snow accumulation.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 10am this morning due to the potential for 1 to 2 inches of new snow. A Wind Advisory is also in effect until noon tomorrow due to the potential for 20 to 30mph winds with gusts to 50mph but those winds have yet to materialize.
As of 2am, temperatures around the Ferndale area were in the upper 20s and continuing to drop. The short-term forecast is for snow to continue through the morning and possibly into the afternoon. Sustained north wind of 20 to 35mph with gusts to 45 mph are expected this morning.
