The evening commute – what you need to know

If you are in Bellingham and feeling confident the bare and wet roads visible in most areas will make for an easy commute home, be aware, it is not bare and wet in Ferndale.

As is often the norm, conditions transition significantly around Bakerview Road. As of 4:30pm, temperatures are below freezing in north Whatcom County. As a result, roads surfaces are covered with a mix of snow and ice.

Snowfall in the Ferndale area has been off and on throughout the day but has been constant the past hour or so. About 2 inches of accumulation have stuck around.

City crews have been out plowing and sanding primary routes around town today.

Recent reports say Church Road hill from Mountain View Road should be avoided and to plan on a slower commute home as drivers are advisably reducing their speed to account for the wintery conditions.

And, in case you missed it, the current Winter Weather Advisory is in effect through Saturday morning.
