FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale-based artisan cheesemaker Ferndale Farmstead came away from this year’s American Cheese Society Competition with a couple 1st place awards and a 2nd place award. They were 1 of only 4 Washington State cheesemakers to receive awards.

Ferndale Farmstead took home 1st place medals for their Fresh Mozzarella Ciliegine and for their RoundBale. They received 2nd place with their Smoky Scamorza.

Fresh Mozzarella Ciliegine won 1st place in the Fresh Mozzarella under 8oz category. RoundBale won 1st place in the Grating Types category and Smoky Scamorza won 2nd place in the Smoked Italian Styles category.

Co-Founder Daniel Wavrin is quoted in a company press release saying, “To be recognized in one of the most competitive categories at the competition and win 1st place for our freshest cheese (Mozzarella made every Monday) and for our longest aged cheese (RoundBale aged over 18 months), I think really highlights the quality of the milk on our farm and what we can do with it.”
