FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale City Councilmember Ramon Llanos has announced he is resigning his City Council seat effective November 30th.
Llanos was elected to position 7 on the council during the 2019 General Election and the term for that position is scheduled to continue to December 31, 2021. The position became vacant after Fred Kennedy resigned mid-term.
Llanos told My Ferndale News he recently sold his residence inside the Ferndale city limits and will be moving outside the city limits. This will make him ineligible to continue serving as a councilmember.
Remaining councilmembers will be tasked with approving a replacement for that seat after November 30th. The replacement will be expected to serve until someone is elected during the 2021 General Election.
City staff are expected to publish a request for applicants from which the remaining councilmembers will choose by vote during a regular council meeting, the soonest being on December 7th according to City staff. Once someone has been chosen, they will be sworn in and immediately take their seat on the council.
Councilmembers are paid $600 per month.
