Ferndale Downtown Association takes on tourist issues

fda logoFerndale Downtown Association (FDA) members met today, January 13th, for their regular quarterly meeting. One of the biggest topics came from the findings of a “secret shopper” who came to Ferndale and evaluated its appeal from a tourist’s perspective.

Last summer (2015) a consultancy, Roger Brooks International, hired by Bellingham Whatcom County Tourism, drove to Ferndale (as well as other places around Whatcom County) and proceeded to evaluate what was encountered through the eyes of tourists seeking out places to go and things to do. A video was produced that explained what was found, both good and bad, during the trip through Ferndale.

FDA members watched the video during the meeting and then discussed many of the issues brought up. It was decided to put these on the agenda for the April meeting.

The FDA also recognized the tireless volunteer efforts of Ferndale natives Brad and Rhonda Oxford. The Oxfords are relied upon when it is time to set up and take down the hanging flowers, banners and Christmas lights which adorn Main Street and 2nd Avenue.
