Ferndale gets to hang out with local first responders Tuesday

National Night Out is Tuesday, August 6th, and Ferndale area first responders are coming together for a community event in the field between the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center and the Ferndale Boys & Girls Clubhouse from 5:30pm to 8pm.

Scheduled to be on hand demonstrating their equipment and skills will be Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters and EMTs, Ferndale Police Department (FPD) officers and Heston Hauling.

WCFD7 are planning to be giving tours of their firefighting and aid vehicles including a ladder truck and aid unit. They will also be handing out plastic firefighter hats and badges.

Several FPD officers along with support staff and volunteers will be attending and available to answer questions. The FPD’s mine-resistant ambush protected vehicle (aka MRAP), the Communications van and other FPD equipment will be on display.

Heston Hauling will be on hand with their new 40-ton wrecker and other tow trucks. They will be providing a surplus vehicle to be used by WCFD7 personnel to demonstrate ways to extricate patients from their vehicles.

Heston Hauling will also be bringing along their version of Tow Mater, a character from the animated movie, “Cars.”

WCFD7 will have a booth where you can observe and learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Across the parking lot, the Ferndale Senior Activity Center will be handing out ice cream bars and providing tours of the center.

Windermere Real Estate will be sponsoring the event. They will be on the cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for the public.
