Washington State Patrol reported in a news memo early this morning that Robert L Boyles, age 52, of Ferndale, died as a result of injuries suffered in a crash on I-5 near the Guide Meridian interchange yesterday, July 31st, about 5:40pm.

According to WSP investigators, Boyles was riding a black 2014 Harley-Davidson FLHR motorcycle southbound on I-5 when a grey 2001 GMC Yukon SUV driven by Travis Tillerson, age 44, of Sedro Woolley, slowed for traffic in front of Boyles. The Harley-Davidson struck the rear of the GMC and Boyles was ejected, landing in the center median.

Boyles died at the scene and Tillerson was not injured. Boyles was wearing a helmet and Tillerson was wearing a seatbelt according to the WSP.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were determined to be a factor in the crash according to investigators. No charges are pending and speed was cited as the cause of the crash.
