Ferndale Police charge shooter with attempted murder

Both suspected assailants required medical attention after yesterday’s shooting and stabbing incident in the Motel 6 parking lot on Riverside Drive.

Charges were pending while police investigated and until after the suspects had received medical attention.

This morning, shortly after midnight, Ferndale Police booked Jason M Riemland, age 44, into the Whatcom County Jail charged with attempted 2nd degree murder according to City of Ferndale Communications Director Riley Sweeney.

Sweeney said charges on the second suspect were pending their release from medical care which is not expected to happen until next week given the severity of the gunshot injuries.

Few other details, including the last known addresses for Riemland and the other suspect, are being released while Ferndale Police continue to investigate what happened. Sweeney did say security video from the motel will be reviewed in order to understand what led the shooting and stabbing assaults in what Sweeney could only refer to as a “domestic dispute.”

Riemland’s name only appears in a few civil court cases in Skagit County.
