Ferndale political forum draws County Council and Port candidates (video)

The meager audience turnout Tuesday evening may have spoken more to the evening weather following an unseasonably warm high of 87° than to the importance of the topics discussed.

Candidates for Whatcom County Council and Port of Bellingham Commissioner positions in the upcoming general election gathered in the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center for their first opportunity to let voters know where they stand on the issues.

Folded paper fans provided to the audience could be seen being put to use by many, including the candidates, throughout the evening.

Ferndale Grocery Outlet Operator Larry Brown presented the questions while Friends of the Ferndale Library President Sarah Koehler kept track the time. Both Brown and Koehler are Chamber Board members.

Not in attendance was Rud Browne, candidate for County Council District 1.

Browne and Donovan currently hold elected positions on the County Council but, due to the new districting, are running for different positions than they currently hold.

The candidates introduced themselves and then each were asked 4 questions which were different for the County Council candidates and the Port candidates. Each then had the opportunity to rebut their opponent’s response.

The following 1-hour video is not of the entire forum. It lacks some candidates’ responses in part or whole due to human error and technical problems.
