After months of undergoing significant renovations, the building that once housed The Scottish Lodge has been opened as a Motel 6 franchise location. That is according to the banner now hanging from the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce’s electronic reader board on Main Street. But the office was locked and unattended this afternoon and the Motel 6 website does not list the Ferndale location when looking to book reservations in the area.
The Whatcom County Assessor’s records for the property show it remains under the ownership of George Oh of Seatac. Oh has been the property owner for the past 15 years.
Staff on the City of Ferndale’s Facebook page had announced last November that Motel 6 had purchased the property and would be opening in January 2015.
Motel 6 has been operating for 50 years and is currently the largest owner/operator with over 1,200 properties in the US and Canada according to their website. The next closest Motel 6 is located south Bellingham.
Discover Ferndale received a call from the Ferndale Motel 6 General Manager Uman Kumar. She was happy to confirmed they are now open and rooms can be booked by calling the motel at 360-384-4040. As renovations are still finishing up there are only 10 rooms available but there will be 50 rooms available after renovations have been completed. Kumar also confirmed that this is a franchisee operation, not owned and operated by Motel 6 as are many of their properties.
Kumar was also able to advise that Dr. Oh passed away. Social Security records show that he passed in 2008. A call has been placed with the Motel 6 regional director to determine who the franchisee is for this location.
