Ferndale’s sister city hit by typhoon – donations being accepted

FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale’s sister city, Minamiboso, Japan, is located within an area hit hardest by Typhoon Faxai on September 9th. The storm caused millions to lose power including hundreds in Minamiboso who did not see their power restored until last week. Roofs were reported to have been torn off many houses due to high winds of 90 to 130mph. Farmers and ranchers in the area also suffered severe crop and livestock damage.

Local news agencies report the people in Chiba Prefecture, where Minamiboso is located, are still struggling to recover from the damage caused by the strongest typhoon to hit the area in recent history.

A donation account at Wells Fargo Bank has been set up to accept donations to help repair the damage. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so in any Wells Fargo Bank branch by making a deposit into account 3480969116.

Anyone with questions can call Kathy Chasteen at 360-384-3124.

In 2016, a delegation from Minamiboso came to Ferndale to celebrate the 25th anniversary as sister cities. Ferndale hosted a reception, complete with performances, gifts and cultural exchange.

After several phone calls and trying to get a human being on Wells Fargo’s phone system who, after being on hold for almost 10 minutes, said the bank knew nothing about donations for our sister city, I finally found out by calling Kathy Chastain that donation checks have to be made out to “Ferndale Sister City Association” referencing a/c # 3480969116 then sent to Wells Fargo. Too bad Wells Fargo don’t know anything about it.
