FHS Boys Basketball season begins with a home game

FERNDALE, Wash. — Tuesday, December 3rd, marks the start of the 2019-20 Ferndale High School (FHS) Boys Basketball season with a home game against Snohomish. Tip-off is at 5:40pm in the FHS gym for the C Team and Junior Varsity, followed by the FHS Golden Eagles Varsity at 7:15pm.

This is designated as both White Out Night and Gift-Giving Night.

  • Everybody is encouraged to wear a white shirt in support of the team
  • Bring an unwrapped gift to the game and deposit it in the container in the entrance lobby, for distribution to community kids in need for Christmas

The Golden Eagles are looking for a large turnout, for they will not return home again until back-to-back games on December 16th and 17th after four games on the road. Head Coach Jason Owens said, “We’re excited about the rising young talent on an inexperienced team. They did many things well in the Blaine Jamboree last week. After 10 practices, we’re eager to get going.”

Owens welcomed back four seniors, but none with varsity experience after graduating nine seniors and the entire starting lineup. Two players returned from last year’s 11-9 team. they are junior Andrew Monks and sophomore Jazen Guillory. Teammates elected them and senior Reese Gillespie as co-captains this year. All three are 6-foot 2-inches tall, the tallest on the team (along with three others).

The 2019-20 varsity team roster is as follows:

Seniors: Reese Gillespie, Nick Leavitt, Malachi Ledbetter, Trevor Morris
Juniors: Andrew Monks, Carson Peters, Edmond Slimane
Sophomores: Jazen Guillory, Jesse Sapp, Mark Schlichting
