Crews with Whatcom County Fire District 8 and the Bellingham Fire Department were dispatched to the 2500 block of Lummi View Drive about 3:50pm today, August 18th, due to a report of a boat fire.
Bellingham Fire Department Captain Dave Pethick said the 30-foot crabbing boat’s sole occupant was transported by a medic unit to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical center in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Bystanders reported crackling had been heard prior to 2 explosions occurring on the boat. They reported seeing the occupant jump off the boat just before the explosions.
There were no reports the fire or emergency response had impacted ferry runs between the nearby Gooseberry Point ferry terminal and Lummi Island.
