FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Fire District 17 (WCFD17) Fire Chief Jim Petrie said the burn ban currently in place in their district will be lifted as of 8am Friday, September 13th.
WCFD17 serves Sandy Point Shores, Sandy Point Heights, Neptune Heights, Neptune Beach and western portions of the Lummi Indian Reservation.

- Residential fires of over 4 feet in diameter require a written permit.
- Only natural vegetation fires are permitted. No burning garbage, cardboard, treated wood, construction/renovation/demolition debris or substances release toxic emissions, dense smoke or obnoxious odors.
- Burning is only permitted during daylight hours except recreational fires
- Any fire that produces smoke, odor or ash that unreasonably impacts neighboring properties is prohibited
Permits are issued during normal business hours at the fire district office at 4332 Sucia Drive.
Whatcom County Fire District 11 (WCFD11), which serves Lummi Island, remains under a total burn ban. According to WCFD11 Fire Chief Duncan McLane, their district’s burn ban will stay in place while the Whatcom Chief remains in dry dock.
The Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s office lifted their county-wide burn ban on Wednesday, September 11th.
