Firefighters’ Stuff the Boot fundraiser is coming to Main Street

Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters will be out Friday, February 8th, and Friday, March 1st, between 4pm and 6pm at the intersection of Main Street and Joe Moser and Dick Stone Lanes collecting donations as part of their “Stuff the Boot” campaign. According to organizers, all proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help find a cure for blood cancers.

This is part of the worldwide 28th annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb fundraiser put on by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It culminates with firefighters in full gear climbing the Columbia Tower in Seattle; 69 flights of stairs, 1,356 steps and 788 feet of vertical elevation. Approximately 2,000 firefighters from all over the world will arrive in Seattle for this annual one day event.

Organizers say firefighters participating in the Stuff the Boot drive on Main Street will be easily recognizable in their firefighting gear. They will have firefighter boots in which donations can be placed. Firefighters will be positioned on both sides of Main Street to accept donations.

This is the second year WCFD7 firefighters have done a Stuff the Boot campaign and they hope to continue making it an annual event.

The “Flocks of Flamingos” campaign last fall raised nearly $1,000 for the Leukemia & Lyphoma Society by the firefighters.
