National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle office forecasters upgraded a High Wind Watch to a High Wind Warning yesterday and this morning have provided more specific timing for what is expected to be the first windstorm event of the season.

According to this morning’s updated NWS forecast, winds are expected to pick up across the Puget Sound area today, especially over parts of the northwest interior (including the Ferndale area).

A High Wind Warning is in effect for the northwest interior from noon today until 4am tomorrow. It warns of sustained winds from the southeast of between 20 and 35mph with gusts to 60mph. The strongest winds are expected between 6pm and 10pm.

Being this will be the first significant wind event of the season, impacts and damage can be greater, forecasters warn. Windspeeds needed to snap tree limbs or topple trees are lower for early season windstorms.
