FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters were dispatched about 7:30pm to a report of flames on the roof of a residence in the 7000 block of Tall Cedars Lane tonight, November 9th.

WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said the owner had knocked down the flames on the roof with a garden hose by the time firefighters arrived but fire was also discovered in the walls and attic. Firefighters knocked down the interior fires.

Boyko said the furnace was suspected as the cause of the fire. It had just been installed and was being operated for the first time when the flames were noticed.

No one was injured in the fire, Boyko said. The residence was vacant when the fire broke out.
