FERNDALE, Wash. — Whatcom County Public Works report repairs are progressing towards reopening Graveline Road after a section of the road fell victim to creek flooding after a heavy rainfall event in December of 2017.

Repairs on the section where Silver Creek crosses under the road needed to be accomplished during a limited window of time that occurs each year to limit environmental impacts on fish populations. Officials say this “in the water work” to set a 30-foot pipe in place has been completed prior to the October 15th close to the “fish window.” Crews are now backfilling over the pipe and building the road bed up to its original level.

After the backfilling and compacting have been completed, the road will need to be paved and striped before it can be reopened, all weather dependent work. The current estimate for reopening the road is some time in November according to a Public Works official.
