Candidate’s submitted biography (unedited):

Ferndale Councilperson Greg Hansen has announced that he is running to become the next Mayor of Ferndale. Greg is a current Ferndale City Councilperson, position 2.

“After weeks of consideration, and after listening to the concerns of many Ferndale citizens whose opinions I respect, I have decided to run for the office of Mayor of Ferndale” said Hansen. “Ferndale deserves a choice in leadership.”

“I have heard Ferndale citizens’ frustrations with city government. I think we can do a better job of providing effective, efficient, and economical services to our Ferndale community,” said Hansen. “I first ran for Ferndale City Council four years ago because I truly believe that government is a force for good in peoples’ daily lives.”

Greg lives in Ferndale with his wife Raquel and two children, Andrew, age 20 and Katie, age 13.  Greg has been a resident of the Ferndale community for 50 years.

After almost 20 years in the hospitality industry, Greg joined the Business Administration faculty at Whatcom Community College as an adjunct instructor in 2006.  In addition to general business courses, Greg also teaches a number of hospitality related courses and serves as Whatcom Community College’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program coordinator.  Greg holds Bachelor degrees in Economics and Political Science as well as History and Social Studies from Western Washington University.  He has also completed significant Graduate work in History at WWU. His work at the Resort Semiahmoo included virtually every job in the restaurant industry starting as a “busser”, moving on to waiter and eventually the Food and Beverage Manager and later Director of Restaurants. Greg’s education and experience make him uniquely qualified to lead Ferndale as it’s Mayor. “I am Ferndale made,” said Hansen, “I am a Ferndale High School and Western graduate. In my 20s and 30s I was a manager at the Resort Semiahmoo. In my 40s, I changed careers and went into education and for the last 13 years I have been teaching Hospitality and Tourism Management and Business Administration classes at Whatcom Community College.” “I have dedicated my professional life to business management while leading, teaching, and mentoring individuals to reach their full potential. My entire life has been a preparation for this role in our community,” said Hansen. “I will bring thoughtful and engaged leadership Ferndale voters can trust.”
