The National Weather Service Seattle office yesterday issued an areal flood watch for several western Washington counties which include Whatcom County and the Nooksack River.
The current Nooksack River level forecast at Ferndale (as of 8:30am today) shows the river has begun to rise and is expected to crest about 2am Thursday just short of 16 feet. Other recent crest forecasts have been fluctuating between 18 and 15 feet.
Depending on ground saturation, past river levels exceeding 15 feet have impacted low lying roads such as Barrett and Paradise Roads, Ferndale Road and Marine Drive. Drivers should be alert for the potential of water and debris over these roadways overnight.
