The city has put on the ballot this year a tax district much like the Transportation Benefit District sales tax approved by voters a few years ago. The proposal is for a Metropolitan Parks District which will collect taxes to be used toward purchasing and maintenance on new and existing city park lands. These funds would be in addition to what has been budgeted for parks.
In preparation for the election, the City of Ferndale has begun accepting applications for participants to sit on either the pro and con (for and against) committees in order to write the pro and con statements for the ballot measure. These will be printed in the local voters’ pamphlet sent out for the November 3, 2015 General Election.
According to the city’s announcement:
Pro and Con committee members will be appointed by the Ferndale City Council, pursuant to state law, and will have a short timeframe (due by August 7) to write their statements regarding the measure. The committees consist of three members each, though members can select other persons to serve as an advisory committee.
Applications to serve are due by 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 24. Submit completed applications to the Ferndale City Clerk’s Office, P.O. Box 936, 2095 Main Street, Ferndale, WA 98248. Download the Boards & Commissions Application form right here.
