Ferndale Kiwanis and Ferndale American Legion members were up early this morning placing American and Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) flags along Main Street in recognition of Independence Day.
Ferndale American Legion places POW/MIA flags on the corners of each intersection in downtown and at the base of each service flag at the Veterans Memorial on 2nd Avenue on federal flag holidays that have a military importance.
In addition, Ferndale Kiwanis members line Main Street with approximately 150 American flags each federal holiday. Volunteers put the flags out early in the morning and remove them in the late afternoon.
